Professor Robert C. Allen has been teaching Economic History at Oxford University since 2002.

This short book provides a broad economic history of the world, and presents the story within a clear framework. The dramatic decline of Asian manufacturing and great divergence in economic progress since the “discovery” of the Americas and the Industrial Revolution, are explored, with potential lessons for economies emerging and reforming in modern times.
